International Village Study Abroad
A unique collaboration between
Guy Healy, Japan and Nagasaki Junior College

In February 2012, Guy Healy, Japan (GHJ) in collaboration with Nagasaki Junior College (NJC) will invite a team of 20 college students or recent graduates to come to Nagasaki, Japan to participate in the International Village Study Abroad (IVSA) program. IVSA offers applicants a unique experience by providing: (1) hands-on English teaching experience with International Village (IV), (2) Teachers of English as a Second Language (TESL) certification upon coursework completion, and (3) a full-time undergraduate semester course load through NJC.

IVSA is offered for two purposes:
To provide a study abroad program with Nagasaki Junior College offering a full undergraduate semester course load with transferable credits through the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in Japanese language, culture, and international leadership. Applicants will test into their Japanese language courses accordingly and take Japanese culture and international leadership classes with their teammates. A TESL certification course can be completed with additional class work. NJC offers all credits, courses, and necessary student visa documents.
To offer applicants experiences as counselors teaching English as a second language with International Village. All applicants will also have the option of extending their stay after the semester ends as camp counselors for Guy Healy, Japan’s USA Summer Camp, sponsored by the Japan Travel Bureau. Applicants who successfully complete the TESL course and choose to participate in the USA Summer Camp will receive limited tuition and airfare reimbursement.

ENG - English for the Next Generation

ENG is an exciting new program for teaching English in Japan.  We put three native speakers in a classroom once a week and give the teachers and the students an exciting curriculum.  Our teachers are interns from the United States , most of whom are seeking a degree in teaching and want to use this internship (ENG) as their practicum.  Our teachers all have teaching experience and are well-trained in the ENG model and curriculum before they step into the classroom.

To our teachers, Guy Healy, Japan provides:

  • round-trip airfare and transportation to the target city in Japan
  • housing (usually provided by the school, usually a host family)
  • training
  • a curriculum
  • living support in Japan
  • placement in a school in Japan
  • coordination with the intern's home school, if necessary

We're looking for some motivated, energetic, bright future teachers to help us revolutionize English education in Japan.  If you'd like more information, follow one of the links below.
